Fluorescent Tubes

A fluorescent tube is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor. The excited mercury atoms produce short-wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor to fluoresce, producing visible light. A fluorescent lamp converts electrical power into useful light more efficiently at a lower energy cost incandescent lamp. The lamp requires a ballast to regulate the flow of current through the lamp. While larger fluorescent lamps have been mostly used in commercial or institutional buildings, the Compact Fluorescent Lamp is now being used as an energy-saving alternative in homes. Compared with incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps last longer, but are bulkier, more complex and have poorer color rendition.

The size and shape of a bulb is designated by a letter or letters followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb while the number indicates the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, “T12” indicates a tubular shaped bulb having a diameter of 12⁄8 or 11⁄2 inches.

Linear Fluorescent Tubes

Fluorescent lamps convert more of the input power to visible light than incandescent lamps. A typical fluorescent lamps convert about 22% of the power input to visible white light. The efficacy of fluorescent tubes ranges from about 16 lumens per watt for a 4 watt tube with an ordinary ballast to as high as about 100 lumens per watt for a 32 watt tube with modern electronic ballast, commonly averaging 50 to 67 lm/W overall. Linear Fluorescent Tubes must have ballasts inside of the fixtures in order to make them work.

Circline Fluorescent Tubes

The most common shape is T9, though Circline Fluorescents come in a wide variety of sizes. Circline Fluorescent Tubes are Energy efficient lighting and they not only reduces operating costs; it also supports a clean and sustainable environment, perfect for your commercial or industrial uses! As with all fluorescent bulbs, circline bulbs rely on ballasts inside of the fixtures in order to make them work.

U-Bent Fluorescent Tubes

A U-bent Fluorescent Tube is low pressure mercury vapor discharge light source bent into a U-shape also known as U-Shaped or U-Bend Fluorescents. Perfect for lighting in limited spaces in your business or industrial complex! As with all fluorescent bulbs, U-bent bulbs rely on ballasts inside of the fixtures in order to make them work.
